Understanding Hellenism
Note: This section is long. However, it is crucial to understanding scriptures that address leadership and authority in the local church. Take the time to read and understand it, especially before critiquing any other material on this site.
As mentioned in the introduction to this blog, we all have bias. If we approach scripture manuscripts with our cultural views, we will undoubtedly walk away with wrong understanding of much of scripture, not to mention the local church. If not careful, we cannot help but have our presuppositions effect our efforts to translate the scriptures.
When approaching any study of scripture, imagine yourself climbing into a time machine and parachuting into these times and places. They are each a complete, non-fiction story. Each story has a context unique to the time and place. Each is entirely unlike our own context.
